Gatherings are In-Person on the First Wednesday of the Month

Gatherings - Thursday, January 4, 2024

Please note the day change, for this month only.

The Featured Event for January is a Chair Sale.

Gatherings is held in the Community Room at Albert McCormick Community Center.

Doors open at 10:30  for members. There will be representatives from Membership, Library, SMILE, PAL, Memory, Quilts of Valour, UFOs and Fabric Curator.

What is a chair sale, you might ask?

  • It is an opportunity for you to bring your not so loved items and sell them or give them away to other guild members. You might  have fabric, thread, notions, crafting, sewing or knitting items that you want to pass on to another guild member.

  • You are welcome to set your items up on a chair or if you have lots of items, you may want to use a portion of a table. We want to avoid creating any tripping hazards.

  • Please make a sign with your name that can be attached to your chair or portion of a table. Include prices on items you wish to sell. Have a container to collect any money generated from the sale of your items.

  • This is a wonderful opportunity to pass on unloved treasures and bring some new ones home.

Come and enjoy part or all of the day - Gatherings runs from 10:30 to 3:30.

Bring a mug and enjoy a hot beverage.

Elaine and Jean

Walking Foot Valentine Play Day
with
Carol Wilhoit

Wilhoit cards.jpg

Remember the fun of gathering doilies, colored paper, scissors, markers and glue to make Valentines? Experience the same joy of Valentine making, this time with ingredients of fabric, batting and thread, using your sewing machine with a walking foot, dual feed or even a regular sewing foot. You will learn a variety of ways to quilt a heart and then use your hearts to make mug rugs that are perfect Valentines. Trimming the extra batting around the heart makes the heart three-dimensional, an extra special touch known as trapunto. The designs and techniques used in class can also be used for larger quilts, so you should leave with some completed Valentines and with ideas that you can use for quilting your next quilt.
