Wiggles & Waves: Free-Form Curves
with
 Karen Eckmeier

We are delighted to have Karen Eckmeier join us from Connecticut, USA, for our February meeting! Karen will present her lecture, Wiggles & Waves: Free-Form Curves. Inspired by the textures, lines and colours found in nature, Karen will share her love of curved piecing and collage, and how it led to the creation of her layered top stitching technique. Wild curves and dramatic angles may look difficult to do, but the process is really easy and quite relaxing! So sit back and let Karen inspire you during this presentation on how to use her top stitching technique to create wiggles & waves, twists & twirls, logs & leaves, Accidental Landscapes™ and even waves to wear.

Karen is an award-winning quilter, international teacher and author. Her books, patterns and workshops (Happy Villages, Accidental Landscapes and Wiggles & Waves), emphasize her no-stress approach to playing with fabric, whether it be raw-edge collage or her layered/topstitching technique, students always go home with an ‘I can do that’ attitude.

Karen will be teaching her full day workshop ‘Accidental Landscapes: BEACHES’ on Saturday February 25, 2023. For more information about the workshop and to register, please go to our  online store.

Gatherings are In-Person on the First Wednesday of the Month

Welcome to our next Gatherings
March 1, 2023 10:30 am - 3:30 pm

Gatherings is a new programme offered by the WCQG. This new monthly in-person programme was created to enable members to meet, sew, socialize and learn. From October to June, from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, on the first Wednesday of the month, there will be space for members who wish to sew. There will be an opportunity to pick up and deliver supplies and projects to SMILE and PAL and other outreach projects. The library will be open to take out and return library books. There will be an opportunity to participate in the UFO Challenge and Strippers Club. For anyone just wishing to come and sew for the day, please contact Jean to reserve a table.

In addition, there will be a Featured Member sharing works and/or techniques, enabling members to enhance their quilting talents. For the schedule of Featured Members click here.

I quilt all my large quilts on my domestic sewing machine. Both the quilt top and back are fully constructed before the batting is added in a quilt-as-you go technique. I’ll be demonstrating throughout the day and will be prepared to answer questions. There will be quilts on display that have been quilted using this technique.

Gatherings is a new initiative for WCQG members, so any and all feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Coordinators: Elaine LaRonde & Jean McFarlane.

This month Glenda Dippel will be featured demonstrating how to quilt a large quilt on a domestic sewing machine. There will also be a display of Glenda's Quilts.

Please Note:

For the safety of the membership, Gatherings will adhere to health and safety guidelines established by the Region of Waterloo and the WCQG Executive.

At this time proof of vaccination and masking are required to enter the room for any purpose.  We will continue to monitor Covid health guidelines and numbers, but given the age demographic of our membership we are taking these current extra precautions.
