Every Last Crumb,

An Adventure in Scrap Quilting

Brita Nelson

We are delighted to have Brita Nelson join us from Berwyn, Pennsylvania , USA, for our November  guild meeting!  Brita was a chemical engineer in her previous life and brought that passion for knowledge and improvement into her quilting endeavors. Brita is known as “the Questioning Quilter” and will present her lecture and slide show, “Every Last Crumb, An Adventure in Scrap Quilting”.  In this presentation, Brita does a deep dive into “What If” with a variety of disappearing blocks as well as explores two of the most powerful words in the English language, “What If”.

Since retiring from the corporate world, Brita has devoted herself to sharing her love for quilting by writing, speaking, demonstrating and teaching. Brita is an award-winning quilt artist and teacher with over 35 years experience.

Gatherings - December 6, 2023

Members are encouraged to come for part or all of the day. Members are welcome to bring their sewing machines or hand sewing. Please bring your mug and enjoy a hot beverage.

At each event, Membership , Library, SMILE, PAL, Memory, Quilts of Valour, UFOs and Fabric Curator participate.

The Library will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Grace Cameron is our Featured Member for December. She will be introducing us to the wonderful world of bag making. In 2020, Grace's friend introduced her to bag making. Grace explains that once you know the basics of a really good tote bag, you are able to make modifications to suit your needs. Maybe wider straps or more pockets. They are great for a quick gift. They are just so much fun to create.

Please join us for Gatherings and enjoy Grace's presentation.

Since it is the last event of this year, members are welcome to bring a sweet or savoury treat to share.

Bring your mug and enjoy a hot beverage.

Inspiration Galore at the Quilt Exhibit!!

Something in your stash that would work??

Bet the Library could help bring the two together!!

It was great to see you in the Library in October – 26 of you borrowed 61 books from our collection.  We hope you enjoy them and found what you were looking for.   Even with all the busyness of our Quilt Exhibit, 3 more people joined the Library Challenge.

Haven’t heard about the Library Learning Challenge – check out our website and/or the newsletter.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email us at or visit us on November 1 – our next Gatherings.   The Challenge runs from September 2023 to April 2024, so there is lots of time.

Friendly reminders about your Library

  • Open 10:30 am to 2 pm at each monthly Gathering

  • You can borrow 3 books each month, or 2 books & 3 magazines

  • If you participate in our Challenge, you can borrow an additional book to help with the “Technique” you pick.

  • Borrowers must be current members and use their new library card – which you will receive when you check in at the Membership table.

  • Online orders are welcome.  Email us at by 6 pm on Monday, October 30, 2023.  You can preview the Library Inventory by clicking on that button on our website.

  • Book Sale table will be open - $2.00/book or 3 books for $5.00.

Hope you enjoyed the Quilt Exhibit – it was amazing.

We look forward to seeing you on November 1 at Gatherings.

Creative Ideas for Using Scraps
Make Beautiful Quilts

Barbara Pye

"In this workshop we will be working with our bins of scraps to make beautiful new quilt blocks.  Scraps in my world can be anything from a half yard of fabric that

doesn’t work in my stash to the small triangles I cut off while making a binding strip and everything in between.

This is a technique workshop where we will be making a Dresden block.  I will show you how to construct the block, glue basting and the different products available, how to make a perfect circle for appliqué and hand and machine appliqué sewing.  We will also look at the different ways we can use this versatile block in our projects.

Many people have asked about paper piecing, so this is a perfect time to make a block using this method and scraps are ideal. We will also look at different ways of using our scraps to make new and unique fabric to use in other projects.

Join me in a fun Scrapalicious day!”
